Oakland Rotary #3 formed its Education Support Committee in 1991 to provide assistance to selected oakland public schools, and to their students. The support has been both financial and "hands on".

Financial support, for example has included the funding of student awards and recognition programs, SAT instruction classes, fees for college applications, and the puchase of library books, trophies, musical instruments, supplemental instructional materials, and planter boxes.

Hands-on support has included the sponsoring of and participation in student events such as career days, instruction on interviewing techniques, assistance in locating jobs and serving on school advisory committees.

In addition, the Education Support Committee sponsors the "Extra Mile for Education Award" to honor deserving volunteers and teachers who have made a special contribution to education.
