General Information

In order to make your event the best it can be, please ensure that if you are bringing young adults that ALL HAVE A SIGNED WAIVER WHEN THEY WALK INTO OUR FACILITY. I need to make sure that all parents of invited children receive the information contained in the waiver section below as it contains steps they must take in order for their child to be admitted into our facility.

WAIVER: Every person entering Great Western Power Company (kids, parents, grandparents and hosts) must have filled out a waiver. Anyone under 18 must have their waiver filled out by their parent or legal guardian. To expedite the check-in process, have all parents fill out their child’s waiver online here: WAIVER.

https://app.rockgympro.com/waiver/esign/touchstoneclimbing/c5cc4ea3-af7e...

When filling out the online waiver, please be aware that it is a two-part process. Once you have completed the waiver, you will be required to confirm via an email that will be sent to the address you provide. THE WAIVER IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL THE FINAL CONFIRMATION STEP HAS BEEN DONE..

CLOTHING: Children should wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes and sneakers or tennis shoes. Children will be climbing in their own shoes. Climbing shoes may be rented for an additional $4/pair charge.

FOOD: The facility has a small area. You are welcome to bring your own snacks or purchase them at the gym. We ask that you keep food and beverages off the blue carpets.

PARKING: There is not a private parking lot. All parking is on the street, please allow 15 minutes or more to park your car.

Do not hesitate to call Great Western Power Company or myself  if you have questions or need more information. Tipping the instructors is welcome but never required.

The Event

Phenomenal young pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner returns following his triumphant debut last season on Notes from Mexico.

We roll out the first in a new series exploring dazzling lost Romantic works. Danish composer Victor Bendix’s Third Symphony (1895) features unusually rich harmonic textures, beautiful string interludes and majestic winds.

Conductor Leopold Stokowski’s orchestration of Bach’s monumental Toccata and Fugue in D minor—which has one of the most recognizable opening themes in all music—helped spark a mid-20th century flood of interest in Bach’s sublime works, and its being featured in Disney’s 1940 Fantasia brought it to the attention of millions.

This evening out will include:

Finger food provided by Ozumo; beverages poured on no-host basis discount seats in upper balcony and rear orchestra

About Moonlight Kayaking From Jack London Square

Goal: Enjoy a leisurely kayak cruise under the moonlight on the Oakland Estuary off Jack London Square.

Prerequisite: Novices must paddle in a double kayak with an experienced friend.
The minimum age for Moonlight Kayaking is 14 years; children under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Duration of program: 3 hours

Time on the water: Approximately 2 hours

Note: Good physical condition is required to ensure an enjoyable class. If you are not sure about your abilities to participate in this activity, please call our California Kayak's Program Office at 800-366-9804.

Paddling under the moonlight is an enchanting experience! The water is usually calm and glassy on the Oakland Estuary in the evening, and the city lights add to the romance. We'll enjoy a leisurely pace as the sun goes down, and the moonrise sets the stage for a beautiful trip. Weather depending, we'll paddle out around Government Island, or towards the mouth of the Oakland Estuary. You stay warm and dry in our cozy sea kayaks, too. You can introduce a friend to moonlight kayaking by paddling together in one of our stable doubles.

California Kayak's enthusiastic staff will give a brief orientation to the equipment and strokes, then guide you on a tour of the area. During the trip, we'll "raft up" the kayaks and drift under the moonlight while enjoying the sounds of the city!

Overview

Oakland Rotary’s High Adventure Committee has obtained a permit to hike to the summit of Mt. Whitney on Friday October 9th.  It is a one-day permit that requires that we complete the hike in the permitted area within 24-Hours (midnight to midnight).

Mt. Whitney is located in California’s Eastern Sierras , about 100 miles (driving) South of Mammoth Lakes and just West of the town of Lone Pine.  From Oakland, it is approximately a 6-7 hour drive.  The permit is for 10people.  Mark Rosen and Tom Limon will co-lead the hike.

It is imperative that all participants of this "climb" do adequate training and be comfortable hiking in snow.

If weather conditions do not look favorable 4 days prior to October 9th an alternative location will be designated. A possible alternative will be in Yosemite.

What a Fantastic Evening of Fun, Friendship, and Socializing!

It definitely was an evening of fun, laughter, and socializing.
A very special thanks  to our sponsors, guests, and volunteers who made our fundraiser spectacular.
Although we don't have the final figure in we know that it will nicely support the endeavors of the Oakland Rotary #3 Committees.

James Martin, our photographer, has posted our pictures, as well as provided a link if you want to get them printed. He receives nothing from the printing, just providing the service.
