THURSDAY LUNCHEON SPEAKER - Gary Virginia, The Inside Scoop on SF Pride at 50

Thursday, July 16th, 2020 - 12:25pm to 1:30pm

Get the inside scoop on San Francisco Pride from its start with a 1970 march down Polk Street and a small "gay-in" held in Golden Gate Park, to becoming one of the largest LGBTQ events in the country. July presenter Gary Virginia served as president of SF Pride in 2014 and 2015, was a Community Grand Marshal in 2012, and has co-produced the Annual Pride Brunch honoring the Parade Grand Marshals benefiting PRC for 22 years. On the occasion of SF Pride's 50th anniversary, the parade and celebration were cancelled, as well as many peripheral events, due to COVID-19 health precautions. But as Gary will explain, "The show must go on!" Ever the optimist, he will offer a glimpse of how many groups reimagined their events in creative ways during an ongoing pandemic, economic challenges, and political unrest.
