Civic Thursday Meeting -Liz Ortega - Secretary Treasurer of the Alameda County Labor Council

Thursday, August 12th, 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

It is said the American organized labor is at a cross-roads: whether to expend resources organizing industries like Amazon that are presently not organized, or mobilizing workers to support social justice and public policy issues.

As Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Alameda County Labor Council, Elizabeth (“Liz”) Ortega does both.  Liz has over 20 years of experience working with labor unions and community organizations to advance economic opportunity, social justice, and immigrants’ rights. She is also the first Latina to be elected Executive Secretary-Treasurer in the history of the council.

Liz oversees the Labor Council’s program that helps to empower union members working in a broad range of jobs across the public and private sectors. Prior to coming to the Labor Council, Liz Ortega was the Statewide Political Director for AFSCME Local 3299, the University of California’s largest employee union.
